The GPL PUBG Open Tournament Finally Concluded

As you all know too well, PUBG couldn't be held as a game at the GO MESF 2017 due to some tragic technical issues which we didn't see coming. Now, roughly a month later, we've finally concluded the tournament over 3 inconsecutive days, which many of you were watching live over at our Facebook and Twitch streams. Below is our roundup of the results and all the great performances from the first Maltese PUBG tournament!

Although we delayed the dates, you can trust us when we state that the time had no effect on the fierce quality of competition between all the participants. Apart from the glorious medals and trophies on the line, it was the hardware prizes which players were eyeing over at the overall player performance leaderboards.

Starting with the Solos, we carelessly dropped 84 of the best local Maltese talent into one arena. Within the first minutes, the weaker contenders were quickly eliminated as the top dogs began to settle disputes. Incredible amounts of tension really made it difficult to watch at a steady heart rate over the games. As the dust settled, the names of “r33d” from Project Eversio and “HoXtyYy” preceded the overall solo champion “Dejee”! An outstanding performance dictated by a grown understanding of the game, and perhaps a little luck made him a joy to watch. The top three will be receiving individual trophies, but more importantly, have their scores calculated alongside everyone else to be tallied up later on.

Rank Name Points Kills Total Points
1 Dejee 934 21 1039
2 r33d 752 34 922
3 HoXtyYy 726 9 771
4 PKmlt 652 19 747
5 SETHTR0XLER 514 2 524

Full solo standings can be found here.

Then came the Squads: all 14 of them! Among the well-established names of Project Eversio and dOUBTFUL were the Erotic Banana Bros, Marshmallow Beast Squad and Team Baguette. Creativity was certainly not lacking when it came to naming the 4 man teams!

Getting back on track, it was tremendous fun to witness the list of teams fight it out over the games that were played online. Towards the top of the spectrum was a healthy amount of close competition, with the total points range between 1st and 6th only being 1000, as kills were traded and intense strategies were put into practice. The amount of strategy pleasantly overpassed our expectations and contrive an even greater sense of excitement for the upcoming event in which we’ll include PUBG. At the end of it, Project Eversio sat on top, almost contested by All We Wanted Was A Trophy (and they got one) who were trailed by the team of iXtreme.

Rank Name Points Kills Total Points
1 Eversio 2290 52 2810
2 All We Wanted Was A Trophy 2145 40 2555
3 iXtreme 1946 35 2296
4 3ManTeam 1668 22 1888
5 Zharki 1507 15 1657

Full squad standings can be found here.

The part you’ve all been waiting for on the edge of your seats – addition time. Gamers.com.mt was as precise as possible when it came to the scores, even going out of our way as to use decimal points for an extra level of accuracy. Without further delay, below are the top Overall PUBG players in Malta right now:

Rank Player Team Total Overall Points
1 r33d Eversio 1664.5
2 Dejee iXtreme 1625.5
3 PKmlt Eversio 1379.5
4 Cincin Eversio 1217.5
5 Arneh All We Wanted Was A Trophy 1098.25
6 pubismannen All We Wanted Was A Trophy 1003.25
7 felezzz 3ManTeam 994
8 Lavinbjern All We Wanted Was A Trophy 987.25
9 Ddeathrow Eversio 966.5
10 SETHTR0XLER Zharki 940.75

Full overall standings can be found here.

Decorating the top positions, the name of Project Eversio is finding its place on the podium through their squad members of “r33d” and “PKmit” being unbelievable, complimented emphatically by their teammates who just missed the top three. Yet, we don’t think that Project Eversio had an undisputed run overall, as players from iXtreme and All We Wanted Was A Trophy eagerly loiter in the top 10, waiting for their next chance to compete. So what does landing a podium finish actually mean here?

Well, third place “PKmit” will be receiving the Corsair Spec04 Chassis, an incredibly compact and professional chassis worth 100 euro and a trophy to envelope his efforts. Second place, achieved by none other than the Solo Champion “Dejee” will be rewarded with an exciting bundle from peripheral manufacturer Ozone worth 200 euros, alongside a deserved trophy. First place, on the other hand, gets to take home the best gaming chair on the market right now! The GT Omega Racing PRO Office Gaming Chair worth almost 300 euros! We’re sure that “r33d” is satisfied with such a prize.

Congratulations to all those who took part in the tournament, especially for their patience with the rescheduling due to the mentioned technical issues at the event. Gamers.com.mt will not let this happen again 2018 as the local PUBG scene looks to continue growing as we are yet to name an uncontested team or player.

Truly starting the year with a bang!

Batman:Arkham Studio Teases Suicide Squad Game?

So, as we discussed in an earlier article, the entire COVID-19 pandemic deterred game developers in their honest work of pushing out new titles. Regardless, the studio behind the Batman: Arkham series has announced an entirely new intellectual property within the same universe - supposedly, a Suicide Squad game is in the works and a trailer is due shortly. Read on for all the details! First off - why should this be considered a 'big deal' to some?  Well, for those unaware, Batman: Arkham is a critically acclaimed series of action-adventure video games. The four instalments in the series pack a combination of a well-written story, intriguing characters, puzzling gameplay and thrilling action. Who doesn't wanna be Batman for a day? Also, one thing DC Comics fans will appreciate is the fact that original writers were utilized to construct a story loyal to the comics.  That's were the new game walks in - behind the success of a respected series of games. Rocksteady Studios has claimed the property of Suicide Squad as finally made official by their Twitter post below:  Target locked - #DCFanDome - August 22. #suicidesquadgame pic.twitter.com/HrXZNKwo0f— Rocksteady Studios (@RocksteadyGames) August 7, 2020 What should we expect?  Well, first off, there's Superman right in the cover art. Otherwise, as with respect to the unloved Suicide Squad film, one can expect fugitive characters from the DC Comics universe coming together to form an anti-terrorist/alien squad, each propelled by a form of leverage. The following are certain characters one can expect:  Harley Quinn Joker  Batman  Superman  Deadshot  Enchantress  Katana Chato Santana  Killer Croc  The potential here is simply endless. Immediately, the community is gravitating towards a potential 'Batman vs Superman' storyline which could be great - again, better than the corresponding film. Perhaps, in terms of gameplay, the ability to pick between characters mid-level could allow for some awesome strategy.  Personally, even though I'm no fan of DC Comics, especially of their lacklustre films, a game like this still peaks my interest. Overall, we can expect a full teaser on the 22nd August.  Let us know in the comments what you think of the upcoming title!

Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 - Coming Out Later This Month?

Rumours have it that Nvidia's next top-of-the-line GPU from its RTX series is due to release later on this year, probably Q4. In this article we'll be diving into all the speculation and delivering the whole scoop. What's for certain is that the RTX 3080 is on the way, it's just nobody is overly certain as to when.  All this speculation arises from the fact that the release date is bound to be shown soon. This applies not only to the RTX 3080, but also its sibling in the RTX 3080 Ti and the remainder of the RTX 3000 series.  The following is what we know:  Nvidia has announced Ampere for Data Center - this may result in a GPU influenced by Ampere or not, this remains unclear.  Nvidia and AMD are scheduled to release their next-generation graphics cards later on this year  The COVID-19 pandemic may have impacted the development of the products The Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 looks to cost roughly the same as the Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 at launch   As multiple technology news outlets rummage through the speculations, everyone is convinced that this new series looks to blow the previous RTX generation out of the water. Bearing this in mind, there are those who are concerned over the potential price of the graphics card. One massive selling point for this new GPU, according to rumours, is that the GPU will finally be making use of a 7nm manufacturing process.  A 7nm is arguable what has helped AMD stay afloat in the battle with Intel, as Intel has notoriously failed to go lower than 14nm. Embracing this new architectural style could help the next generation fo Nvidia GeForce RTX graphics cards be truly awe-inspiring. Correspondingly, more improved heat performance is also expected to make up for improved performance.  Yeah, you can go ahead and search up some performance stats for the RTX 2080, though I'd be sceptical. Until now, take everything with a pinch of salt. All we can do is stay vigilant as a release date is imminent.  Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below!

PS5 Games - Compatibility with DualShock 4?

So, even though we've had one or two reveal events for the PS5, there's still a lot of ground to cover. Questions are still being asked with regards to hardware, software and every aspect of the next-gen console, especially with reference to how it matches up against Microsoft's product. A new piece of information has revealed certain information about controller compatibility - here's the deal.  So, overall, PS5 games will not be functioning or controlled through DualShock 4 connection. Yes, the PS4 controller can and will connect to the PS5, but only for limited functionality.  DualShock 4 can be used to play PS4 games on the PS5  DualShock 4 cannot be used to play PS5 games on the PS5  It's implied that DualSense controller will not be usable on PS4  Xbox on the other hand, will have full compatibility for next-gen console  Why? That's the question Playstation gamers are asking? Why is it an Xbox gamer doesn't have to worry about a new controller but I have to?  Simply put, the DualSense controller is way too different compared to the DualShock controller. The expansive new set of physical technology has seemingly made it too unnecessary for developers to invest in adapting the game to the PS4 controller. Also, if developers have put time into integrating the DualSense controller as a component of the gaming experience, taking that away could deter the overall experience of playing the game.  Then, of course, there's the argument of marketing. It's pretty logical - with the immense popularity of the PS4, DualShock controllers have blessed most households. Most people wouldn't end up investing in more controllers, besides the one that would come in the console box, due to that level of accessibility.  Nonetheless, there's definitely a lot to chew here. In my opinion, it's hardly ideal, but it won't be a 'forced upgrade' should the DualSense controller be as game-changing as it looks to be. Just like DualShock 4 was a massive upgrade to DualShock 3, that's what I see happening here.  Still, I hope there's reverse compatibility with PS4. I still enjoy plugging in PS4 controllers into my PS3 to play an older game - especially during the boredom of lockdown.  Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below!

The Effect of Lockdown - Esports and Gaming Rising, Sports Falling

In a previous article, we discussed how lockdown affected the gaming industry in that more gamers were logging on although game production slumped considerably. Now, new information has emerged with regards to how esports has been affected - interestingly enough, with the fall of traditional sports, more fans have been making the transition from the latter.  By 'fall', I'm referring to the fact that traditional sports have suffered immensely due to lockdown. Of course, traditional sports isn't dying, but the COVID-19 lockdown has brought to light its limitations.  Back on topic, esports has surged thanks to lockdown, and it's pretty obvious why. Supporting this statement, a study by Comscore's 2020 State of Gaming found that 25% of gamers had tuned into esports since the lockdown started.  And, to add, many of these gamers were committed traditional sports viewers too. The original article is viewable for preview here. Let's take a quick look at some other points:  As of May 2020, there were a shocking 210 million total unique visitors to the gaming category (watching gaming)  +133% growth in time spent on gaming sites (since 2017)  80% reach of total digital population (gaming content)  +194% growth in time spent watching gaming videos on desktop (since 2017)  38 million U.S households had a gaming console of sort, with an increase of 9 million from last year  Mobile-only gamers = 15% of all gamers Gamers who regularly play on PC, console and mobile = 36%  Gamers who play on every platform = 33% The top things off, the study offers a graph in its preview showing graphically how the swap to lockdown affected gaming and esports compared to traditional sports:  So while traditional sports froze, esports has kept growing and growing. The pandemic has been an opportunity for everyone to step back and appreciate how incredibly capable esports can adapt to these types of situations.  Hopefully, you've enjoyed the fun facts we've listed above. Call of Duty Warzone Season 5 - What You Need to Know!

Brace yourselves for another notoriously sizeable download file from our friends over at Infinity Ward. If you could perhaps delete another game, I'll let you know in the following article what you're making space for. Season 5 of Warzone, the biggest battle royale of 2020, is finally here and already available. Read on and allow me to fill you in.  Available on PS4, Xbox One and PC, let's kick things off with a quick look at the epic trailer for the update:   Here are the most notable changes:  Acropolis National Arena - the stadium, which everyone kind of knew would open one day, is finally selling tickets. The massive arena is quite typical in design - rows of seating, a field, a garage, lobby and corridors make up the large and convoluted space. Also, the roof is no longer isolated to helicopter users, as rappels now hang off from either side.  Trains - this, is definitely awesome. The train will offer a new way of traversing the map, eliminating opponents and finding loot. Some might say that the concept is similar to that of 'Armored Trucks' as seen in PUBG Season 8, though this seems much more polished overall.  New mode - mini royale trios - a fast-paced battle royale in smaller portions of the Verdansk maps  Added weapon inspection - enjoy your customized loadouts that much more.  Gulag weapons rotating weekly between 4 sets  Semi-auto rifles and snipers have been buffed  Released on August 4th, the download will come in around 34-54 GB if you were wondering.  For the full patch notes, including that for the main game of Modern Warfare, visit the following link: https://www.infinityward.com/news/2020-08/MW_Patch_Notes_August_4.  Personally I find this update to be pretty awesome in particular. The implemented train and arena look to allow for another endless set of possibilities and clips which I look forward to watching.  Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below!
